For those of you who may not know, I am pretty active when it comes to volunteer work and participating in community events.
It means a lot to me.
And it just so happens that the most challenging event for me is right around the corner. You may have heard me mention it last year, the Fight For Air Climb (FFAC) through the American Lung Association. Now, I'm not going to pretend that I do this because I am a phenomenal runner or anything like that, or even overly active in general. I have never been on a sports team or anything like that, and I never wanted to be on one. So it may seem a little crazy that I plan on running up all 70 floors of the tallest building in Michigan, and I am sure some of you ask why I would do that when you find out that I hate running. Not just the average amount either, I detest running with all of my being. In normal circumstances me and running just don't mix.
But this is about more than just me.
People everyday are being diagnosed with lung disease, lung cancer, and asthma. Lung disease is the third largest killer in the US; 1 in 6 people will die from it.
So though it may be beyond my comfort zone, I will be running to raise awareness and funds to battle for healthy lungs and healthy air.
Fight For Air Climb 2012 quote:
"I climb because I am part of the fight for air. I climb because I want research that will find a cure. I climb for those who can't quit smoking and for those who shouldn't start. I climb so that we can have lungs that burn from exercise, not from ozone. I climb because no child should die of an asthma attack. I climb for the millions who face lung disease everyday. I climb for those who have won the battle and for those who have lost. I climb for all those who cannot and because I can."
This is why I climb,
though I could use a little help.
If anyone is able to make a small donation to help me reach my fundraising goal, or would like to spread word of my cause, I would be forever grateful. I have until March 3rd to reach my fundraising goal of $250.
